Meet Your Guide:
Nathaniel Child is a nature and landscape photographer based in coastal Maine. His journey into the exciting (and sometimes sleep-deprived) world of night sky photography began in the summer of 2010 when he spent five nights a week under the amazingly dark night skies of northern California working as a spotted owl research technician. It wasn’t long before Nathaniel pointed his camera at the sky to see what he could capture. As soon as the clouds of interstellar dust and countless stars of the Milky Way appeared on the camera’s LCD screen, he knew he was hooked.
Ever since those long nights under the stars chasing owls, Nathaniel has spent countless nights photographing not only the Milky Way, but also nocturnal wonders like bioluminescent plankton, fields of fireflies, glowing mushrooms, lunar eclipses, distant nebulae, and the most awe-inspiring of all: the northern lights. Nathaniel moved to Maine in 2017, and since then has been exploring the coasts and mountains of Acadia in search of the best places to photograph the night sky. He loves helping people of all skill levels photograph Acadia by starlight, and uses his knowledge of the park to bring them to locations that help create the images they’re looking for.
